Our story at Forest Lodge

Forest Lodge began with a lifelong dream.

From a young age, Jo imagined a life surrounded by animals, fresh air, and the simple joys of the countryside. Inspired by treasured time spent with her farmer uncle, Uncle George, that dream never faded. In 2024, Jo and her husband Martin made the life-changing decision to leave behind their busy town life in Reading and begin building their own smallholding at Forest Lodge in the beautiful village of Aberbeeg — a place they are now delighted to share with others.

What started as a dream has grown into a peaceful and welcoming space where visitors can slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy meaningful time with animals in a calm and personal setting.

Jo brings years of experience working with children and young people of all ages, including those with a wide range of educational and social needs, across both educational and care settings. Creating a nurturing environment where people can feel comfortable, included, and relaxed has always been at the heart of Forest Lodge.

Today, Forest Lodge is home to a growing family of friendly animals, including playful goats, curious hens, gentle guinea pigs, and seasonal lambs. Whether you’re bottle-feeding a lamb in springtime, collecting eggs, preparing treats for the guinea pigs, or simply spending quiet time with the goats, every visit is designed to feel personal, peaceful, and unhurried.

Unlike larger attractions, Forest Lodge welcomes just one family or small group at a time. This creates a truly one-to-one experience that is especially valued by visitors who may find noisy or crowded environments overwhelming. Here, there’s no rush — just space to breathe, connect, and enjoy the countryside at your own pace.

Jo, Martin, and all the animals look forward to welcoming you to Forest Lodge and sharing a little piece of the life they always dreamed of creating.
